Maximum strength with whole body vibration training

alt

The maximum strength is the highest possible tension that can be evoked in a muscle in order to overcome or stabilise an external resistance. With the maximum strength, type 2 of the muscle fibres are activated. These types of fibres are primarily stimulated with vibration training. From the viewpoint of the muscle, maximum strength is about the number of myosin heads that can be eventually be folded out. In order to measure the maximum strength, the weight is determined that can be shifted by one group of muscles once over the whole length of motion.

The speed of the process is not important, but the maximum quantity. This principle can be compared to a weightlifter, who tries to lift as many kilos as possible during a competition. The athlete will generate his maximum strength and that’s why it would not be possible for him to lift the same weight twice.

If the weightlifter is to improve his maximum strength with conventional training methods, the number of repetitions of his exercise is a minimum of 1-6 repetitions and the resistance is (80-100% of 1rm) at most. Between the repetitions, a long period of resting is necessary (3-5 minutes) so that the muscles can recover, which takes relatively much time. The resting period in vibration training is much shorter and therefore this way of training does take less time. The risk of injuries with conventional training methods is high due to the impact of the resistance on the passive organs (bones, joints, sinews). This impact is much lower with vibration training and moreover the risk to get injured is less when training on a vibration plate than when applying conventional training methods. The research described below proves that the training on a vibration plate is more efficient for building up maximum strength.
